Established in 2017, Smartcore is a pioneering social enterprise at the intersection of educational technology and digital finance, dedicated to solving the urgent educational challenges facing Sub-Saharan Africa.With 65 million secondary school-aged children out of school, and nearly 70% of Tanzanian youth aged 14–17 not enrolled in secondary education, Smartcore is making remarkable strides. By December 2023, the initiative had already impacted over 523,159 students and teachers across 297 schools, enhancing student grades by an impressive 80%.At the heart of Smartcore’s mission is Kisomo, a data-driven, affordable platform that integrates online and offline learning with locally relevant interactive content—including short videos, animations, and quizzes—making education accessible even in low-tech environments. With a cost that is 75% cheaper than traditional alternatives, Kisomo empowers educators to track individual learning journeys while providing real-time data for informed decision-making by education stakeholders.
